Autism Lives Here

Autism Lives Here: A Sunday ritual.

Pictures that give a glimpse into our life with autism.  Pictures that may show how distinctly different our lives are from yours because of autism.  Or pictures that may show how similar our lives are regardless of autism.

Today’s picture:

hand bites

It’s not always smiles and quirkiness.  There is sadness (and a gazillion other emotions) that come along with this diagnosis.  Brian had a hard day this past week.  He’s been battling a cold for two weeks, was working with an assistant that he wasn’t as familiar with as he is with his two primaries, didn’t quite understand what was being asked of him, and he was being asked to break one of his routines/rituals.  Children with autism engage in self-injurious behaviors for many reasons- a lot of it comes down to them not being able to communicate what the real problem is.  Brian bites his own hands.  And it breaks my heart.
