It had been a long day. We had got a lot done and had a lot of fun and the day was winding now. All three of my boys (husband included) had settled down to their screen time. It was very quiet and not a single one of them seemed to realize I was still around so I decided it was the perfect time to sneak upstairs for a relaxing bubble bath.
I climbed in and was just getting into a really intense part of A Song of Ice and Fire when I heard the footsteps.
It was my fault, because I had left the bathroom door cracked upon. If it was closed all the way, Brian would’ve just ignored it. But part of his household rituals is always making sure all the bathroom lights are off and bathroom doors are closed (no other lights or doors have these same necessities). He opened the door and started to flick off the light when he spotted me.
I was actually kind of glad to see him because I had forgotten to grab myself a towel and I asked him if he would go grab me one. He quickly left the room….
and promptly returned with a towel…..wearing his swim shorts and the biggest grin I’ve ever seen.
“No, Brian! Mama’s turn! No shorts!”
He then starts to take off his shorts.
“No, Brian! Keep shorts on! No swimming tonight! Mama’s turn!”
He pulls his shorts back up and starts to climb in again.
“No, Brian. No bath for Brian. Mama’s turn!”
He stops. Frowns. Surprisingly doesn’t cry. But definitely frowns.
We stare at each other in an awkward silence for about five minutes.
“Alright, turn around.”
I climb out and surrender the bath tub to Brian.
It was good the eight minutes it lasted.
