No Kids? Time to Recharge!

My boys go to their father’s every other weekend and on vacation weeks they are sometimes gone up to four nights at a time.

I’m always sad to see them go.

However, there are definitely positives to being able to recharge and have some time without children.

  • Date nights!  I love going out to dinner with my husband without one child knocking over a drink while incessantly talking about Minecraft and the other flapping and pacing next to the table.
  • Having more than one drink on those date nights.
  • The Quiet.  Beautiful, beautiful silence.  There is never a moment of silence when my children are around.
  • Sleep.  Glorious sleep.  Like many on the spectrum, our nine-year-old still to this day doesn’t always sleep through the night.  I’m working on YEARS of sleep deprivation here.  Yesterday I didn’t have a client until 11:30 so I slept in until 10.  Yes, seriously- 10 o’clock!
  • Less chores.  Laundry and dishes are both cut in half.  Actually more than half.  Those little human beings somehow go through a ton of clothes in a single day.
  • I can eat ice cream in the middle of the afternoon.  No longer having to wait until the littles are tucked in and sound asleep.
  • R-rated movies.  Trashy reality shows.  All things I can’t watch with children around.
  • Making fancy dinners and actually enjoying them.  No having to watch one child gagging on the texture and the other saying, “This is kind of gross.”

I love taking this time to recharge my battery.  When the time rolls around for the boys to come home, I’m always more than ready.  I’m ready for the cuddles and the laughter.  And I’m even yearning for the chaos.
